What is it?

In his searching Rev Chris has never found an introductory course to offer people who want to explore spirituality that he felt he could offer that quite hit the spot.

So he decided to write one.

He asked a group of people who aren’t church goers to a series of interviews and focus groups about what they wanted to know about life and spirituality.

The following 5 questions emerged.

  • What is the point of religion at all?
  • Why do people suffer?
  • How do we forgive?
  • What is the afterlife like
  •    How do I live an ethical life?

After experimenting on a willing group of churchgoers,  we trying a pilot this spring. Our first attempt starts on Tuesday 20th of February.

Why is it different from any other course like this ?

Firstly, this isn’t a covert recruitment exercise. We ask people to commit to coming to the sessions because time and care has been put into them and there are limited places.  Afterwards it’s up to you.  You’d be welcome to explore if Wylde Green holds something for you or if you need to keep searching that is just as fine.

Secondly it assumes that there aren’t simple answers, and the value is discussing and exploring.  We’re clear the church doesn’t have the monopoly on wisdom but has something to say. We understand that much of we talk about are opinions and feelings rather than concrete facts.

Finally, there is no judgement. We get people automatically feel judged by religion.  We promise not to judge you in any way. We only ask that we respect each other and the space we create by behaving in kind and nurturing ways .
